Home Folder, Agenda, and Daily Reading
- Each student should have a Home Folder. Daily homework assignments and any newsletters / parent letters belong here.
- Each student should also have an Agenda or Planner to record the homework.
- Students are expected to read for 20-30 minutes nightly and will be expected to inform me of pages read each night. Students will take an AR quiz at the end of every book, and students are expected to meet their semester AR goal.
Homework
- Homework is assigned EVERYDAY. It is vital that students complete the homework everyday.
- Homework is nothing new. It is meant to be a review of what has been covered in class and a great way for students to assess and monitor their own learning. Alternatively, students may be asked to complete unfinished classwork at home.
- Students are expected to work on JiJi at home for at least 15 minutes a night.
- Check the HW tab above for a list of their daily homework.
- Please check that your child has completed the homework each night, as listed in his/her Agenda.
Tests/Quizzes
- Greek & Latin Roots Quiz every Friday
- ELA/Writing Quiz at the end of every standard or learning target
- Your child will store all graded assignments, tests/quizzes, and projects in his or her Academic Portfolio. This portfolio will be sent home every month. Please review the work, sign, and return the portfolio within a week.
Interventions:
- READ, READ, READ! Read 20 minutes every night. Read aloud to your child and/or have your child read out loud to you to practice their fluency.
- Check your child’s comprehension by having him/her retell what he/she just read and/or ask questions.
- MULTIPLICATION TABLES and MENTAL MATH. Encourage your child to practice their multiplication tables and mental math facts everyday. Quiz them and/or make flashcards with them. Fifth graders need to know this in order to succeed in 6th grade.
- STAY HEALTHY. Always eat a healthy breakfast before school (no junk food or candy). Ensure your child gets 8-10 hours of sleep every night including weekends.
